New Pontoon Facility & Events
Located in the North West region, close to the Irish Sea cruising routes and the Western Isles of Scotland, The Foyle Pontoon is situated on the River Foyle in the heart of the historic Walled City of Derry.
In 1993 Londonderry Port moved down river to Lisahally leaving behind a riverside which today, boasts luxury apartments, restaurants, riverside walkway and now, a serviced berthing facility for marine visitors.
This facility was funded through the European Union's Peace II Programme through the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.
Foyle Regatta
The Pontoon was marked 'open for business' with the Foyle Regatta. As a result of the huge success of this event, which involved over 30 boats visiting the city and 24 yachts taking part in the Londonderry Port's Cruiser Race. This has now been established as annual event and will take place on the following dates:
- 2004 / July 9 - 11
- 2005 / July 7 - 10
- 2006 / Jun 30 - July 2
Charges and Facilities
The Foyle Pontoon provides secure access for boat users only and has, on-shore electricity and fresh water. It is within walking distance of the city centre, where you will find restaurants, bars, shopping, banks and post office. Launderette, chandlery stores are a short bus or taxi ride away. Shower facilites for visiting boat owners will be available either at Derry City Council leisure facilities, or at a nearby city centre hotel.
